HELLO! My name is Vanessa and my first musical love was the violin, but since I’ve fallen for all sorts of music in all sorts of ways. My main areas of interest include: noise, sound art, ambient, experimental, free jazz, new music/contemporary classical, and film music.

I’m currently a Master’s candidate studying Arts & Culture Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. My writing has appeared in Pitchfork, The Wire, Bandcamp Daily, the Quietus, Texas Monthly, The Brooklyn Rail, Tone Glow, National Sawdust Log, Sightlines Mag, WNYC’s New Sounds, and WQXR. Prior to freelance writing, I was a college radio host (WYBCx Yale Radio) and a 2019 Bang on a Can Media Fellow. I’m currently based in Brooklyn, NY.

I started The Road to Sound as a place for discussing sounds that are mind-boggling, fascinating, creative, surprising, fun, new, abstract, harmonic, atonal, and everything in between. I hope to contextualize new work and provide space for us all to learn more about different art forms and artistic ideologies.
